ABS™
(Antibiotic Support)
ABS™ Support is a novel blend of four probiotic microorganisms each documented to support the normal
gastrointestinal flora during antibiotic therapy. A potent combination of Saccharomyces boulardii, Lactobacillus
rhamnosus, Bifidobacterium bifidum, and Bifidobacterium breve, ABS™ Support is designed to sustain and
reinforce the protective intestinal microflora crucial for reducing the occurrence of gastrointestinal symptoms
associated with antibiotic-associated diarrhea and C. difficile-associated bowel disorders.
What Are Probiotics?
Probiotic dietary supplements contain live, “friendly” bacteria and/or yeast that support intestinal microbial
balance and beneficially influence human health. Probiotics have been shown to reduce the gastrointestinal
complications of antibiotic and immunosuppressant therapies and to help maintain a balanced gastrointestinal
microflora important for healthy gastrointestinal and immune system function.
Probiotics & Antibiotic-Associated Diarrhea
Antibiotic-associated diarrhea (AAD) is a common consequence of antibiotic therapy, affecting up to 40%
of all people treated with antibiotics. A recent meta-analysis of 25 randomized, controlled trials found that
probiotics significantly reduced the relative risk of AAD by 57%.
The specific actions of the microorganisms in ABS™ Support include:
• S. boulardii is a non-pathogenic probiotic yeast that has broad, versatile gastrointestinal effects.
It enhances the numbers of healthful bifidobacteria in the colon while simultaneously suppressing
populations of pathogenic clostridia.
• L. rhamnosus favorably enhances immunity, inhibits production of proinflammatory compounds, and
augments antibody responses.
• B. bifidum and B. breve are indigenous to the colon’s microflora and are highly beneficial for normal
bowel function. Because they are very sensitive to most antibiotics, replenishing their populations helps
suppress overgrowth by pathogenic microbes such as Clostridium difficile and Candida albicans.
ABS™ Support is a hypoallergenic product free of common
allergens, including dairy products, casein, gluten, corn, soy,
egg, and maltodextrin. No artificial additives, colorings, flavoring,
or preservatives are used.
Suggested use: Take one capsule twice daily with meals for
14 days through the course of the antibiotic therapy or as
directed by a physician. Take either 1 hour before or 2 hours
following an antibiotic dose. Capsules may be pulled apart and
the contents taken in a cool or tepid beverage. Avoid use in
conjunction with hot beverages.
This product was made in a GMP and ISO 9001:2000
registered facility.
